The Department of Digital Journalism at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop titled \u201cMeaning Between Language and Image,\u201d presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Khulood Jabbar Eidan. The workshop aimed to highlight the relationship between visual language and linguistic texts in producing meaning within media messages.
\nThe workshop addressed the importance of images as a fundamental tool in human communication and their growing role in the digital age, where visual content increasingly surrounds people across various fields, including media, education, and institutional communication.
\nDr. Eidan noted that images are no longer merely visual representations of reality, but have become semiotic tools carrying multiple meanings and interpretations that contribute to shaping public awareness and producing media messages.
\nShe also discussed the mechanisms of reading and analyzing images from a semiotic perspective, explaining that understanding an image depends on two main levels: denotation and connotation. The first level focuses on describing what the image presents, while the second interprets the meanings and implications conveyed through its various elements.
\nThe workshop further explained the structural components of images, including colors, lines, lighting, viewing angles, framing, and perspective. These elements work together to produce visual meanings that influence the audience and guide their interpretation of the media message.
\nThis workshop is part of the activities organized by the Department of Digital Journalism at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, aimed at developing students\u2019 skills in analyzing visual messages and understanding their meanings. Such initiatives contribute to preparing qualified media professionals capable of meeting the demands of contemporary digital media and enhancing knowledge related to visual culture in society.<\/p>\n
