The Department of Radio and Television at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a practical lecture for first-year students as part of the course unit \u201cInformation Sources and News Verification.\u201d The lecture was delivered by lecturer Dhulfiqar Fadhil Salman, within the framework of the Renewed Path program, which aims to develop students\u2019 skills and enhance their professional abilities in handling information in the digital media environment.<\/p>\n

The lecture highlighted the importance of relying on trustworthy sources in journalistic work and the necessity of verifying news before publication, particularly in light of the widespread dissemination of misleading information across social media platforms. It also covered the types of information sources, clarifying the differences between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, and demonstrated how to use them professionally in preparing news and media reports.<\/p>\n

A practical, interactive component was included, where students participated in exercises analyzing circulating news and detecting fake news, in addition to exploring key digital tools used to verify images and videos published online.<\/p>\n

The lecture also addressed contemporary media challenges associated with content produced or manipulated using artificial intelligence technologies, explaining the key indicators that help journalists identify and verify such content.<\/p>\n

This lecture is part of a series of educational activities through which the Department of Radio and Television seeks to instill digital verification and critical thinking skills in students, preparing them to face the challenges of journalistic work in the digital age while promoting accuracy and credibility in media practice.<\/p>\n
