A Master\u2019s thesis titled \u201cThe Use of Modern Digital Technologies in Producing Television News Reports\u201d by Karar Obeid Jamil from the Department of Radio and Television was recently defended at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad.
\nThe discussion committee consisted of Professor Dr. Mohsen Jaloub Jabr as Chair, Professor Dr. Adel Abdul-Razzaq as Supervisor, with Assistant Professor Dr. Sharif Saeed Hamid and Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mouloud serving as external members.
\nThe study addressed the context of rapid technological transformations in the media field, focusing on the scientific problem of identifying the mechanisms for employing modern digital technologies in producing television news reports in Iraqi satellite channels, the motivations behind this usage, its main challenges, and its impact on the quality of news output.
\nThe researcher adopted a survey methodology using a questionnaire targeting staff working in the newsrooms of Iraqi satellite channels. The results indicated that digital technologies have become a fundamental pillar in all stages of news report preparation, production, and broadcasting\u2014ranging from information gathering and processing to editing, montage, archiving, and distribution.
\nThe findings also highlighted that the primary motivations for using these technologies included saving time and effort, improving image and sound quality, facilitating editing and montage, diversifying presentation methods, and enhancing competitiveness among media institutions.
\nOn the other hand, the study revealed several professional and technical challenges, most notably insufficient training, weak infrastructure, high costs of hardware and software, and the need for broader technological integration within newsroom environments.
\nBased on the findings, the researcher recommended adopting comprehensive institutional strategies to promote digital transformation in news work, including intensifying continuous training programs for newsroom staff, developing technical infrastructure, updating devices and systems in line with global standards, and implementing well-planned investment strategies to provide the latest technologies while reducing financial burdens through supportive partnerships.
\nAdditionally, the study emphasized the importance of fostering technological integration across news departments, establishing experience-exchange programs with Arab media institutions, and focusing on the creative and aesthetic aspects of news presentation to maintain audience engagement.
\nThe thesis concluded that digital transformation in news production is no longer optional but a professional necessity driven by the speed of events and competitive pressures in the contemporary media landscape. It contributes to enhancing media performance and producing news content capable of competing in a rapidly changing global media environment.
\nFrom a developmental perspective, this thesis aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education, by advocating the development of media curricula and the enhancement of the skills of staff working in newsrooms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
