The Dean of the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ammar Taher, affirmed that media colleges are witnessing a qualitative transformation in graduation projects, as they are no longer limited to theoretical research but have moved toward practical applications that prepare students in real field conditions.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Al-Zaman newspaper, Taher stated that \u201cthis shift responds to students\u2019 need for an integrated educational experience that allows them to apply their theoretical knowledge within an environment that simulates the labor market.\u201d He explained that \u201cradio and television students produce full media works, journalism students prepare reports and investigative stories, while public relations students develop applied media campaigns.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that the college has organized a Graduation Projects Festival to embrace student creativity and encourage professional practice, noting that the festival serves as a practical platform to refine students\u2019 skills and strengthen their confidence, as well as prepare them for effective entry into the job market.<\/p>\n
Taher also pointed out that the college adopts precise and transparent evaluation mechanisms, where specialized committees assess projects according to professional standards, with a system that ensures the confidentiality of students\u2019 and supervisors\u2019 names during evaluation to enhance integrity and prevent bias. He also noted that the administration considers the psychological aspects of participants by honoring all students rather than only winners, creating a positive competitive environment.<\/p>\n
He further confirmed a noticeable improvement in the quality of projects and festival organization year after year, reflecting the growing expertise of students and their commitment to producing more professional work.<\/p>\n
Regarding curricula, Taher emphasized the importance of balancing theoretical and practical aspects, stressing that relying solely on theory does not meet the needs of the media labor market. He called on students to focus on acquiring practical skills alongside academic knowledge, such as editing and media management skills, due to their role in enhancing professional success.<\/p>\n
He concluded that the college is working to provide an integrated educational environment through practical training, organizing workshops, and building cooperation with media institutions to ensure the graduation of students equipped with competence and experience.<\/p>\n
