The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific workshop titled \u201cCredibility Crisis and Public Trust in Media: Fake News and the Impact of Communication Channels,\u201d under the patronage of Dean Prof. Dr. Ammar Taher. The event was held as part of the \u201cRenewed Path\u201d project for media curriculum development, in cooperation with France M\u00e9dias Monde.<\/p>\n

The workshop was delivered by Dr. Diaa Thabit, Head of Communication, Information, and Freedom of Expression at UNESCO (Iraq Office). He outlined the challenges facing media institutions amid the growing spread of fake news and its impact on shaping public opinion and public trust in media content.<\/p>\n

Dean Prof. Dr. Ammar Taher stressed that the College of Mass Communication continues to develop its curricula in line with ongoing digital transformations, noting that such workshops contribute to reinforcing professional standards among students and enhancing their fact-checking skills in a rapidly evolving media environment.<\/p>\n

The session was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Safad Hossam Hammoudi from the Department of Radio and Television. The workshop was attended by the Dean, faculty members, and first-year students from the Digital Journalism and Radio and Television departments.<\/p>\n

The workshop featured practical training sessions and interactive discussions focusing on fact-checking techniques, countering misinformation, and strengthening media ethics.<\/p>\n

The second segment was co-presented by Prof. Dr. Irada Zaidan from the Public Relations Department and Assistant Professor Dr. Bayraq Al-Rubaie from the Digital Journalism Department, addressing the academic and professional dimensions of building media credibility and enhancing communication performance.<\/p>\n

Dr. Diaa Thabit highlighted the importance of promoting media literacy among students, stressing that combating fake news requires coordinated efforts between academic institutions and international organizations to foster a credible and responsible media environment.<\/p>\n

This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17, which emphasizes partnerships to achieve sustainable development.<\/p>\n
