\nThe College of Media at the University of Baghdad organized the 15th edition of the Radio and Television Department festival, in collaboration with the Media and Communications Commission, under the slogan “Towards Creative and Innovative Visual and Audible Media”.
\nThe festival was attended by a large number of media professionals, academics, researchers, and practitioners, as well as university leaders, including a member of the Commission’s Board of Commissioners, Mohammed Al-Hamad.
\nIn his speech, Professor Dr. Ammar Tahir, Dean of the College of Media, welcomed the distinguished guests, students, and professors, expressing his pride in the excellence of the Radio and Television Department students and their creations. He emphasized that they represent the core of work in radio stations and satellite channels, adding an important academic aspect to professional work.
\nHe also pointed out that “the future of Iraqi media depends on these outstanding young people who have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the job market”.
\nTahir also discussed the challenges of visual and audible media in Iraq, highlighting “the lack of diversity in programs and the lack of respect for professional standards in news coverage”. He emphasized the “importance of providing meaningful programs that respect the viewers’ mentality and enhance the social responsibility of the media”.
\nThe Dean of Media praised “the efforts made by the department’s professors and students in creating exceptional works that reflect their learning and practical experience”.
\nIn turn, Dr. Haider Al-Qatbi, Head of the Radio and Television Department, expressed his gratitude to the Media and Communications Commission for sponsoring this festival, as well as to all the academic figures and professors in the department for their efforts in supervising graduation projects. He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the chairman of the judging committee, Dr. Wissam Fadel, and the other committee members for their accurate and fair evaluation of the participating works.
\nAt the end of the ceremony, he congratulated our students on their academic and professional achievements and looked forward to a long-term partnership with the Media and Communications Commission to support student achievements and prepare them for the job market. He expressed confidence that the Radio and Television Department at the University of Baghdad will continue to produce a new generation of qualified media professionals who will contribute to building our society and put an end to inappropriate and low-quality content on social media, according to Al-Qatbi.
\nFinally, Dr. Al-Qatbi announced “the passing of the diligent student Noor Basim three days ago,” expressing “feelings of sadness and condolences to her family and colleagues,” acknowledging that “her departure is a loss to the academic community”.
\nThe festival witnessed a remarkable presentation of a large number of radio and television works created by the students, which varied in content and form. The students presented valuable and diverse productions in various categories, including news reports, interviews, entertainment programs, documentaries, and more.
\nThe participating works in the festival stood out for their professionalism and high quality, reflecting the level of education and training received by the students in the Radio and Television Department. These works were a source of pride for everyone, as the students were able to apply the skills they acquired during their studies and turn them into attention-grabbing creative products.
\nThe judging committee, composed of professors and specialists in the field of media and television, undertook the task of evaluating the participating works based on specific artistic and creative criteria, such as the script, cinematography, editing, and directing, and selected the best among them.
\nThis occasion serves as an opportunity to honor outstanding students and appreciate their efforts in producing radio and television works. It also reflects the commitment of the university and the Radio and Television Department to enhance talents and develop the creative abilities of students.<\/p>\n
