\nThe doctoral thesis entitled “The Journalistic Treatment of Violations of Iraqi Women’s Rights and Their Impact on Social Values – A Survey Study” was discussed at the College of Media, University of Baghdad. The research was conducted by the researcher Yasra Hamza Ali from the Journalism Department.
\nThe examination committee consisted of Professor Dr. Saad Kazem Hassan as the chairman, Professor Dr. Shakirya Kawkaz Al-Sarraj as the supervisor, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Anmar Wahid Fayyad, Assistant Professor Dr. Basim Wahid Jouni, and Assistant Professor Dr. Jassim Tarish Ghdhib. Additionally, Professor Dr. Abdullah Zalata from Cairo University, Faculty of Arts, participated as a committee member.
\nThe research aims to “understand how the Iraqi press has addressed violations of women’s rights and their impact on social values by monitoring and analyzing topics in Iraqi newspapers, namely Al-Sabah, Al-Mada, and Tareeq Al-Sha’b, in order to reveal the content and forms of journalistic treatment in the selected sample of newspapers representing different orientations”.
\nThe study found “diverse journalistic treatments of violations of Iraqi women’s rights in the three newspapers examined. Al-Sabah and Al-Mada newspapers relied on interpretive treatment in covering topics related to violations of Iraqi women’s rights, while Tareeq Al-Sha’b stood out with its informational treatment of the subject”.
\nThe results indicated that “topics related to violations of Iraqi women’s social rights ranked first in coverage across the three newspapers. Multiple issues were discussed, including physical violence, honor crimes, rape, cyber blackmail, forced marriage, and others”. The study also pointed out that “those newspapers sought comprehensive coverage of all social issues that constitute the focus of journalistic interest in monitoring these violations”.
\nThe study also revealed “a positive relationship between the extent of Iraqi newspaper readership among participants and the influence of journalistic treatment provided by those newspapers on their knowledge of violations of Iraqi women’s rights.”<\/p>\n
