The Master’s thesis titled “The Role of Satire in Television Programs in Shaping the Image of Iraqi Politicians” was discussed at the Media College, University of Baghdad. The thesis was presented by (Amir Ali Abdul Amir), a student in the Radio and Television Department.
The examination committee consisted of Dr. Adel Abdul Razzaq as the chairman, Dr. Talib Abdul Majid as the supervisor, and Dr. Rana Ali Khalaf and Dr. Alaa Najah Nouri as members.
The research aimed to “identify the role of satire in television programs in shaping the image of Iraqi politicians, understand the public’s perception of Iraqi politicians through satirical TV shows, and determine the prominent positive and negative aspects of the image formed by such programs. Additionally, it aimed to identify the main topics preferred by the audience in satirical programs”.
The study revealed that “the majority of the audience continuously follows satirical TV programs, accounting for 59.6% of the research sample, while (40.4%) of the total sample follow satirical programs intermittently.” It also indicated that “the majority of the audience who follow satirical TV programs prefer political topics”.
Furthermore, the study pointed out that “the majority of the research sample had a negative perception of Iraqi politicians through satirical programs, while (26.7%) believed that there is no clear image of Iraqi politicians in satirical programs.”
