The doctoral thesis titled “Factors Influencing Performance of Specialized Journalists in Iraqi Electronic Journalism and Their Impact on Communication Efficiency: A Survey Study of Communication Officers” was discussed at Baghdad University’s College of Media. The researcher in the Journalism Department, Ahmed Hatem Mohammed, presented the thesis.
The defense committee included Prof. Dr. Azhar Sabih Ghantab as the chairman, Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Ahmed Al-Samar as the supervisor, and members Assistant Prof. Dr. Birq Hussein, Assistant Prof. Dr. Flah Hassan Ali, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Shareef Saeed Hamid. Moreover, External Member Prof. Dr. Narmin Al Azraq from Cairo University’s College of Media also participated.
The research aims to uncover the influence of political factors on the performance of specialized journalists in Iraqi electronic newspapers and to understand the level of the professional factor’s impact on their performance.
The research results indicated varying degrees of influence by political, economic, security, and professional factors on the communication efficiency of specialized journalists. Furthermore, it revealed that the youth dominate the field of specialized journalism and media work within institutions in the past five decades, with most of them having undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.
The majority of specialized journalists were found not to be affiliated with specific political parties, and their institutions did not affect their political affiliations. However, their inclinations and affiliations did impact the performance of specialized journalists in Iraqi journalism and reflected in the content of their communication.
Conclusively, the study sheds light on the complex interplay of factors influencing specialized journalists’ performance and underscores the importance of understanding these dynamics for better communication practices. End/64
