A Master’s thesis entitled “Levels of News Readership on Telegram Channels among Iraqi Users: A Field Study” was discussed at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, by student Noor Hussein Mujbil.
The examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr Azhar Subaih Ghentab, with Assistant Professor Dr Bayraq Hussein Juma as supervisor. The committee also included Professor Dr Huda Fadel Abbas as a member, and Assistant Professor Dr Haider Shaheed Hashim as an external examiner.
The study aimed to identify patterns and motivations of news consumption on Telegram channels, the factors influencing it, and the relationship between users’ demographic differences and their levels of news readership on the platform.
The findings revealed a high level of news readership among respondents via Telegram channels, with cognitive motivations ranking first among the measured factors.

The thesis recommended presenting news in a concise and clear format while maintaining accuracy and objectivity, as well as further developing institutional news channels on Telegram.
The study aligns with Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, especially in relation to promoting digital and information literacy.
