The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “The Impact of Scientific Hierarchy on Propaganda and Psychological Warfare,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Basim Waheed Joni, with the attendance of a number of faculty members, students, and those interested in media and intellectual affairs. The workshop was held as part of the scientific activities aimed at promoting media and intellectual awareness within the academic community.
During the workshop, Joni discussed the concept of scientific hierarchy and its role in shaping public opinion and psychological and media influence, explaining how certain methods are employed in propaganda and psychological warfare to affect audiences and direct attitudes and ideas.
He also reviewed several models and techniques used in media and propaganda discourse, highlighting the importance of critical awareness in verifying information and media messages based on scientific authority or academic symbolism, especially in light of the rapid developments in communication and digital media.
The workshop witnessed active interaction from attendees through questions and discussions addressing the impact of propaganda discourse on societies and the role of academic institutions in promoting media literacy and conscious thinking among students.
The workshop comes as part of a series of scientific and educational programs organized by the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad to enhance intellectual and media awareness in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on “Quality Education,” which emphasizes building a knowledgeable and aware society based on learning and critical thinking.
