The Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Unit at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a training workshop titled “Fundamentals of News Writing in the Digital Environment,” with the participation of a number of College students. The workshop was part of the Unit’s ongoing efforts to develop students’ skills and enhance their readiness for careers in the media industry.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Ahmed Fadhil, who delivered a theoretical and practical presentation on the key professional principles of news writing in the digital environment. He highlighted the transformations taking place in journalism amid rapid technological advances and the growing use of digital platforms.
The workshop aimed to equip students with professional news-writing skills that meet the requirements of digital media. Topics included writing engaging headlines, developing effective leads, verifying information, and handling the rapid flow of news and real-time updates without compromising accuracy and credibility.
The lecturer also discussed the importance of incorporating multimedia, such as photos, video, and infographics, to support journalistic content and enhance audience engagement, while emphasizing the need to adhere to journalistic ethics in the digital space.
Through such activities, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit seeks to prepare a generation of media professionals capable of working efficiently in a constantly changing digital environment and contributing qualified professionals to media organizations.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants emphasized that developing students’ digital media skills is an important part of advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by preparing graduates with modern skills that meet the demands of the digital age.
