The Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Unit at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific seminar titled “The Role of Universities in Supporting Volunteer Initiatives,” with the participation of a group of faculty members.
The seminar aimed to introduce the concept of volunteer work, its importance, and its role in strengthening social cohesion, while highlighting the role of universities in promoting humanitarian values and supporting volunteer initiatives.
The seminar featured Assistant Professor Dr. Raya Qahtan, Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Al-Shujairi, Dr. Yousra Hamza, and Assistant Lecturer Taysir Khalid, who presented research contributions focusing on the importance of student initiatives in addressing community issues and their role in developing graduates’ leadership skills.
The seminar included extensive discussions on mechanisms for activating volunteer teams on campus and ways to provide academic support to promote a culture of volunteer initiatives and contribute to building an aware and engaged generation.
The outcomes of the seminar align with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, through promoting global citizenship skills, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and community sectors to help build more resilient and sustainable communities.
