Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls aims to eliminate discrimination and violence against women and girls, as well as to promote equal and full participation in all areas. Realizing this goal requires changes at the levels of policies, laws, and culture to achieve gender equality.
In the context of the University of Baghdad, this goal can be achieved through various aspects, such as:
Increasing the representation of women in administrative structures as department heads and deans of colleges, in addition to many leadership positions.Providing educational opportunities for women and girls to reduce the gender gap in access to education. The university has a specialized center for women’s studies to ensure actions are taken to reduce gender-based discrimination and violence, known as the Women’s Studies Center, as well as an administrative unit under the university president’s office called the Women’s Empowerment Unit.
