Fourth-year students in the Department of Public Relations conducted a field visit to the Community Police Directorate as part of efforts to strengthen the practical component of their graduation project, titled “The Impact of Addiction on Domestic Violence.” The visit was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Huda Adel Taha, Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Laith, Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Mustafa, and Lecturer Dr. Rana Abdul Latif.
The visit aimed to familiarize students with institutional efforts to address domestic violence associated with drug use and addiction and to learn about the professional mechanisms used by specialized authorities to handle such cases from legal, psychological, and social perspectives.
Directorate representatives gave a detailed presentation on the role of community police in receiving complaints and providing rapid intervention, family mediation mechanisms, and awareness and counseling programs. They also explained coordination with health and social agencies to address addiction cases that contribute to family breakdown and escalating violence within households.
The students also had the opportunity to ask questions about various aspects of the issue. Discussions addressed the key challenges facing specialized authorities in dealing with individuals whose addiction contributes to violence within their families, particularly limited community awareness, fear of reporting, and the complexities of legal procedures.
The visit represents an important step in developing the students’ graduation project, helping bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and field practice and enhancing their understanding of the risks of addiction as a factor affecting family stability and community security.
The activity also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by supporting efforts to reduce violence, raise community awareness, and promote safer and more stable family environments.
