Today, Saturday, the Dean of the College of Media at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ammar Taher Muhammad, extended his congratulations to all journalists who strive to present the truth to the public without distortion or misleading, relying on accuracy, impartiality, and objectivity in their work.
In a message to the press community, Dr. Taher said: “We congratulate the President of the Journalists Syndicate, Mr. Muayyad Al-Lami, and the esteemed members of the Syndicate Council on this 155th anniversary,” expressing his deep appreciation for their ongoing efforts to support press freedom and defend journalists’ rights.
He added that “Iraqi journalism is a key partner in the progress and construction of society by shaping public opinion, raising awareness, and combating corruption, striving to bring about positive change and deepen the principles of justice and human rights.”
The Dean also highlighted “the significant sacrifices of journalists who lost their lives while performing their professional duties,” affirming that “those pure souls who gave their lives for the truth will remain immortal in everyone’s hearts and memories.”
He thanked the decision-makers in the country, whether legislative or executive, for their sincere efforts to enhance press freedom and enact legislation that protects journalists’ rights and ensures the independence of the profession. He emphasized the necessity of establishing close cooperative relationships between the government and the press for the benefit of society, enhancing transparency, and promoting good governance.
In conclusion, Dr. Taher expressed his pride and admiration for Iraqi journalism and its substantial contributions to building society, noting that “the College of Media at the University of Baghdad has committed itself to preparing a serious program that contributes to creating a generation of journalists capable of bearing responsibility and providing convincing, authentic, and committed media.”
