The Department of Digital Journalism at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, launched a volunteer campaign for PhD students to decorate the department’s corridors with shade-loving plants, under the direct supervision of Prof. Dr. Laith Badr. The initiative aims to enhance the academic environment and promote a culture of volunteerism among students.

The campaign involved distributing a variety of indoor-friendly plants throughout corridors, classrooms, and studios, with elegant stands and informational cards for each plant detailing its name and care instructions. Students participated in cleaning, arranging spaces, and selecting optimal lighting and ventilation to ensure plant sustainability, creating a visually pleasing atmosphere that enhances focus and productivity within the academic spaces.

Prof. Dr. Laith Badr emphasized that the initiative represents a model for the responsible engagement of postgraduate students in serving the university community. He noted that improving the visual environment and air quality in classrooms contributes to the overall quality of campus life and aligns with the department’s vision of fostering an educational environment that stimulates creativity, scientific research, and supports the mental health of students and faculty.

The campaign seeks to instill a sense of belonging and responsibility among PhD students, using greenery to enhance educational spaces in a way that reflects the college’s identity and supports its mission in preparing innovative media professionals. The department also ensures the regular maintenance and watering of the plants according to a scheduled plan, guaranteeing the sustainability and continued aesthetic and educational impact of the initiative.
