The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad inaugurated, this morning, an awareness exhibition organized by the University Psychological Counseling Unit under the supervision of Dr. Rana Abdul Latif, with the participation of students from the Department of Public Relations. The exhibition featured educational posters highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and the effects of digital addiction on young people.

The exhibition was officially opened by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ammar Taher Mohammed, in the presence of Dr. Saad Al-Falahi, Head of the University Psychological Counseling Division, along with a number of its members. Also in attendance was Mr. Hussein Yousif Al-Tamimi, representing the General Directorate for Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Affairs at the Ministry of Interior. The event was held as part of the activities marking the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week and the Anti-Addiction Week.

Following the opening of the exhibition, an expanded awareness seminar was held addressing the dangers of drugs and the social, health, and psychological impacts of addiction. The seminar was delivered by Mr. Hussein Yousif Al-Tamimi, Director of the Legal Department at the General Directorate for Combating Drugs; Asst. Prof. Ikhlas Hameed; and Asst. Prof. Rana Abdul Latif, Head of the University Psychological Counseling Unit. The seminar also featured contributions from students of the Departments of Public Relations and Digital Journalism.

During the seminar, the speakers emphasized the importance of community awareness and the role of academic institutions in promoting a culture of prevention, fostering positive behaviors among university students, and encouraging them to confront various forms of addiction.

These activities reflect the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad’s commitment to supporting national programs aimed at combating drugs, promoting mental health principles, and enhancing student awareness in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3( Third goal): Good Health and Well-Being, and Goal 16(Sixteenth Goal): Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
