University Psychological Counseling Unit Organizes Scientific Seminar on Media Coverage of Drug-Related Topics
The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar entitled “Headlines Addressing Drug-Related Topics in Media Studies,” presented by Professor Dr. Laith Badr Yousif, with the attendance of faculty members and students from various departments.
In his introduction, Dr. Badr highlighted the dangers of drugs in all their traditional and modern forms, stressing that they represent one of the most serious threats to community security and stability due to their direct impact on individuals, families, and the social structure.
The seminar placed special emphasis on digital drugs, which have infiltrated young minds through online platforms, posing a new challenge for specialists and responsible authorities. Dr. Badr discussed how this phenomenon is represented in digital media and how news platforms address it, presenting the results of a scientific study that employed content analysis of digital platforms covering digital drug issues to assess the level of media attention and coverage trends.
He emphasized the critical role of media, particularly digital media, in countering the normalization or indirect promotion of such behaviors, calling for enhanced digital awareness and the development of media discourse that guides young people toward safe and responsible use of the internet and social media platforms.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the University Psychological Counseling Unit expressed its gratitude to the presenter and attendees, reaffirming its commitment to continuing awareness programs that address psychological and social issues affecting students within a safe and supportive university environment.
