This morning, the Sixth International Scientific Conference and the Eighteenth Annual Conference of the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad officially commenced under the theme “Media Between Legislation and Professional Ethics.” The event brings together a wide range of professors, researchers, and media experts from Iraq and abroad, along with academic, professional, and governmental representatives.

The opening ceremony featured the national anthem and the recitation of Al-Fatiha in honor of Iraq’s martyrs, followed by a welcome speech from Professor Dr. Ammar Taher Mohammed, Dean of the College, who extended greetings to the guests and participants. He emphasized that the conference represents a significant academic milestone, shedding light on sensitive issues related to media legislation and professional standards governing journalism amid rapidly evolving technological developments.

The Dean highlighted that the conference aligns with the College’s academic mission to advance scientific research and support in-depth discussions on media regulation. He noted that this year’s sessions aim to develop future-oriented perspectives that enhance freedom of expression while safeguarding society from the risks of unregulated media discourse.

This year’s program includes seven scientific sessions, covering both theoretical and applied research on topics such as media legislation, professional ethics, freedoms, digital media, content management, and technological transformations in newsrooms. The conference will conclude with an expanded recommendations session, which will be submitted to relevant academic authorities to support the development of Iraq’s professional media environment.

The College witnessed significant attendance from students and media enthusiasts, who actively followed the opening sessions, emphasizing the importance of such events in enhancing their knowledge and exposing them to the latest research and studies.

The conference is part of the annual scientific activities organized by the College of Mass Communication – University of Baghdad, aimed at advancing academic and media discourse and strengthening scientific cooperation with Arab and international universities.
