The Department of Journalism at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Media Coverage of Children’s Journalism Affairs,” delivered by Professor Dr. Shukriya Kokaz Al-Sarraj, with the participation of a number of department students.
The workshop addressed the concept of children’s journalism and its importance in building early awareness among young audiences, as well as its role in promoting educational, cultural, and social values. It also reviewed the various types of children’s journalism and their media, educational, and pedagogical functions.
The lecturer further discussed the classifications of children’s journalism according to age groups and content categories. In addition, she highlighted the journalistic genres employed in children’s journalism, such as news, reports, feature stories, and interactive content, outlining the professional and stylistic characteristics that distinguish this field.
The workshop witnessed notable engagement from attendees through discussions and interventions that focused on mechanisms for developing media coverage of child-related issues in accordance with professional and ethical media standards, thereby reinforcing the role of journalism in protecting children’s rights and shaping their character.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities regularly organized by the Department of Journalism at the College of Mass Communication, aiming to enhance students’ skills, advance their professional competencies, and keep pace with contemporary journalistic specializations.
