The Media Committee for the International Conference of Assyriology, “A Journey Back to the Mesopotamian Homeland,” held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Ammar Tahir Mohammed, Dean of the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad, to review media preparations for Baghdad’s hosting of the international academic event for the first time.
The meeting focused on developing an integrated media plan to introduce the conference and its academic objectives, highlight Iraq’s civilizational significance as the cradle of human civilizations, and emphasize the historical importance of Mesopotamia and its role in shaping the world’s intellectual and human heritage.
The International Conference of Assyriology is a global academic forum that has been held since 1950. It takes place annually under the organization of international universities and specialized institutes focusing on Assyriology and the history of the ancient Near East. The five-day conference features intensive research sessions, specialized lectures, and workshops on modern archaeological techniques, in addition to discussions on civilizational developments in Mesopotamia. Holding the conference in Baghdad this year marks an important historical occasion, reflecting the event’s return to its civilizational homeland and presenting the world with a scholarly perspective on Iraq’s history and contributions to human civilization.
The meeting was attended by members of the Media Committee, including Dr. Harith Mohammed Ibrahim, Director of the Government Media and Communication Department at the University of Baghdad; Dr. Haider Abdul-Sada from the College of Arts; Jader Abdul-Wahab, Director of the Media Organization Department at the Communications and Media Commission; Dr. Awsim Majid, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Iraqi Media Network; Dr. Hassan Nima, representing the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate; Dr. Zahra Al-Jubouri, Director of Government Media and Communication at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities; and Ahmed Al-Mukhtar, Director of Media at the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage.
The committee emphasized the importance of coordinating media efforts among the relevant institutions to ensure professional coverage commensurate with the significance of the event, highlight its academic and cultural message, introduce the international community to Iraq’s historical standing, and strengthen its presence in global academic forums.
