The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad won four awards on Saturday at the National University Journalism Festival, hosted by Imam Ja’far Al-Sadiq University, with broad participation from university newspapers representing media colleges and departments across Iraq.
The festival was attended by Prof. Dr. Ammar Tahir Mohammed, Dean of the College, along with Mohammed Al-Mamouri, Editor-in-Chief of the Al-Sahafa newspaper, and a number of the College’s award-winning students.
The Al-Sahafa newspaper won second place for Best University Newspaper, while Confronting Extremism won first place for Best Graduation Project, under the supervision of Dr. Shukriya Al-Sarraj, for its media treatment of a contemporary intellectual issue.
Meanwhile, Noor Muadh from the Department of Digital Journalism won third place for Best Journalistic Report, while Wiam Maher, also from the Department of Digital Journalism, received third place for Best Published Investigative Report.
Commenting on the achievement, Dean Prof. Dr. Ammar Tahir Mohammed said that “this achievement reflects the level of development the College has achieved in both its academic and practical dimensions.” He noted that “the College is continuing to implement its plans to prepare students with advanced professional skills and the ability to compete in the media job market.”
He added that “this achievement is the result of sustained efforts over recent years, including local and international partnerships, the development of infrastructure such as smart laboratories and modern technology-equipped classrooms, and the adoption of practical training as a foundation for student preparation.”
Dr. Tahir also explained that “the College administration has developed an integrated program to enhance students’ skills and prepare a distinguished generation of media professionals equipped with the tools of the profession and able to keep pace with rapid developments in the media sector.”
The achievement highlights the advanced academic and practical performance of the College’s students and their ability to make a strong presence at academic and media events.
