The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad held a master’s thesis defense for Auj Fadhil Abbas, a researcher in the Department of Radio and Television, titled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Television Series Production.”
The examining committee consisted of Professor Adel Abdul Razzaq Mustaf as chair, Professor Hussein Ali Nour as supervisor, Assistant Professor Muntaha Hadi as a member, and Assistant Professor Khamis Mohammed as an external examiner.
The study aimed to examine how artificial intelligence technologies are used in television series production, identify their main applications, assess their use across different production stages, and compare their implementation in Iraqi, Arab, and international television series.
The research adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and a survey methodology using a media survey technique. Content analysis served as the primary data collection tool, supplemented by direct scientific observation and interviews with a number of specialists.
The study reached several conclusions, most notably that artificial intelligence is used in television series production through a range of applications, particularly deepfake technology. It also found that AI applications extend across multiple stages of the production process.
The thesis recommended encouraging Iraqi and Arab production companies to expand their use of artificial intelligence technologies, establishing specialized training centers to equip technical and production personnel with the necessary skills, and strengthening cooperation between media institutions and technology companies specializing in AI application development.
