The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad held a peaceful protest on Thursday against a decision to ban the hijab in educational institutions in Azerbaijan.

The protest followed directives from the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the President of the University of Baghdad, and responded to a call by Muqtada al-Sadr. Participants expressed their rejection of the decision and affirmed the importance of respecting religious freedoms and women’s right to wear the hijab.

Participants adhered to the established guidelines, keeping the protest to a few minutes without disrupting lectures. Only the Iraqi flag was raised, with no photographs or other flags displayed.

The event reflects concern for human rights and humanitarian issues and aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
