Professor Ammar Taher Taher, Dean of the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad, delivered an academic lecture to graduate students titled “Content Analysis in Media Research,” exploring the foundations of this research method and its importance in studying media messages and materials and analyzing their content.
The lecture covered the methodological procedures involved in content analysis, from identifying the research problem and formulating research questions to defining the study population, sample, units of analysis, and categories, followed by classifying data and interpreting findings in light of the study’s objectives and questions.
Taher emphasized the importance of accuracy, objectivity, and clarity in applying content analysis, describing it as a fundamental method in media research. He highlighted its potential for examining print, television, and digital media content and identifying patterns, trends, and characteristics in media coverage.
The lecture also stressed the need to connect the theoretical framework with practical procedures and to select categories and indicators suited to the subject under study. This approach helps graduate students develop rigorous research designs and produce findings grounded in clear scientific principles.
The lecture is part of the academic activities organized by the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad to support graduate students’ research and strengthen their methodological skills. It also contributes to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which promotes quality higher education and scientific research.
