The Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “Digital Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Professional Challenges and Media Responsibility in the Digital Environment.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Baida Saadoun Mushkil, with the participation of undergraduate students from the Digital Journalism Department.

The workshop aimed to familiarize students with the major transformations artificial intelligence technologies are bringing to journalistic practice and explore ways to use these technologies in news production while maintaining accuracy, credibility, and professional ethics.

The sessions examined AI applications in information gathering, news writing, and content processing, as well as the challenges journalists face in verifying information and combating misinformation and AI-generated content.

The workshop emphasized the need for professional verification and review of content produced using AI tools, cautioning against treating such content as a reliable source without proper scrutiny. It also highlighted journalists’ responsibility to verify facts and provide audiences with information objectively and responsibly.

The workshop is part of the College of Mass Communication’s training activities aimed at keeping pace with developments in the digital environment and preparing students with the skills required for modern journalism, in alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.
