Postgraduate students in the Department of Public Relations at the College of Information, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness campaign under the title “A Conscious Generation,” under the supervision of Professor Dr. Fatima Abdel Kadhim.
The campaign aimed to spread the concepts of sustainable development among primary school students in the city of Baghdad and some Iraqi governorates.
The campaign focused on introducing students to the concepts of sustainable development and making them aware of the importance of preserving the school environment and public property, as well as the dangers caused by waste to the environment and the aesthetic and cultural appearance of cities.
The campaign included a series of lectures and workshops in schools, covering multiple environmental topics and motivating the adoption of positive behaviors.
The students also prepared awareness posters that were distributed to school students, in addition to organizing competitions centered around the campaign’s objectives.
In a statement by Dr. Fatima Abdel Kazem, the campaign supervisor, she stressed “the importance of teaching students the skills of preserving school resources and promoting social responsibility to achieve the public good and achieve sustainable development.”
She added that “the campaign reflects the commitment of university youth to achieving sustainable development goals and contributing to building a sustainable and healthy future for society.” The campaign is “a unique initiative that encourages the adoption of a lifestyle that preserves natural resources for a conscious and responsible future generation.”
It is worth noting that the “Aware Generation” campaign for media students is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which are (Goal No. 4: Quality Education, Goal No. 12: Life on Land, Goal No. 13: Combating Climate Change), with its attempts to motivate Social responsibility and enhancing environmental awareness among school students.
