The Public Relations Department at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness workshop on environmental issues as part of the efforts of the department’s student team, “Green Tech.” The workshop aimed to promote sustainability concepts, enhance environmental awareness within academic institutions, and instill a culture of environmental responsibility that begins on campus and extends into the wider community.

The workshop featured Ms. Wasan Faiq, a researcher and lecturer at the Ministry of Environment, who works in the University Environment Department under the Environmental Awareness and Media Division. She delivered a lecture addressing the environmental challenges facing educational institutions, the role of students in promoting positive behaviors toward environmental preservation, and the importance of environmental media in raising awareness and changing harmful behavioral patterns.

The lecture covered several key topics, including sustainability concepts, waste management in universities, rational use of energy and water, and methods to translate environmental awareness into practical actions within the university environment. Special emphasis was placed on the role of media students, particularly those in public relations, in leading awareness initiatives and crafting impactful messages.

The organizers emphasized that the workshop aligns with the Public Relations Department’s goals of supporting student-led initiatives, encouraging students to engage with contemporary environmental issues, and developing their skills in planning, execution, and teamwork, thereby enhancing their professional and civic presence in society.

The workshop concluded with a reaffirmation of “Green Tech” team activities within the College of Mass Communication and the expansion of its awareness programs to contribute to building a sustainable university environment.

This activity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13: Climate Action, Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 4: Quality Education
