The Human Rights Unit at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness workshop titled “Human Rights in Daily Life: From Texts to Practice,” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Duaa Hammoudi Faraj, with the attendance of college students.
The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness of fundamental rights and to instill the principles of human dignity, justice, and equality in their daily behavior both inside and outside the university campus.
It included a simplified presentation of the most prominent international and national human rights texts and charters, highlighting practical ways to apply these rights in everyday life, as well as the role of students in promoting a culture of mutual respect, rejecting discrimination and violence, and enhancing social responsibility.
The workshop witnessed active participation from students through discussions and interventions, reflecting their interest in embedding humanitarian values and applying them within the university environment and the broader community.
The session concluded with several recommendations, including: raising awareness of human rights culture through student activities and events, adhering to behaviors that respect human dignity on campus, encouraging dialogue and tolerance, rejecting all forms of hate speech and discrimination, supporting student initiatives that serve the community and promote humanitarian values, and utilizing digital platforms responsibly to raise rights awareness.
This workshop is part of the College of Mass Communication’s ongoing efforts to prepare students who are aware of their rights and duties and capable of positively contributing to building a society that respects human beings, their values, and promotes justice and equality.
