The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad discussed a PhD dissertation titled “Reels on Arab Satellite Channels’ Pages and Their Reflection on Audience Attitudes Toward the Gaza War” presented by researcher Farah Khalil Mohammed.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Raad Jassim Hamza, with Professor Ali Abbas Fadhel serving as supervisor. The committee also included Professor Adel Abdul Razzaq, Assistant Professor Muntaha Hadi Hindi, Assistant Professor Huda Adel Taha, and external member Professor Noha Atef Adly.
The dissertation aimed to identify the extent to which viewing Reels influences audience attitudes toward the Gaza war through the Instagram pages of Al Arabiya, Al Hadath, and Al Jazeera channels. The study highlighted the importance of this visual format in delivering condensed messages through fast and engaging content that aligns with contemporary audience viewing habits.
The researcher proposed enhancing the production and publication of Reels by satellite channels to maintain a balance between rapid coverage and content accuracy during crises and wars. The study also emphasized the importance of adhering to professional and ethical standards in publishing, particularly in verifying information, avoiding bias, and considering the psychological, cognitive, and behavioral impact of war scenes on audiences.
The findings of the study align with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 16 related to Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
