The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad hosted a meeting of the Committee for the Conservation of Biodiversity and Ecosystems at Al-Hurriya Hall, in the presence of University President Professor Alaa Al-Zughaybi. The meeting was supervised and organized by Dr. Natheer Aboud Fazaa, Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, with the participation of a number of academics and researchers specializing in environmental affairs.

Participants discussed ways to raise awareness among government institutions, civil society organizations, and local communities about the environmental challenges threatening urban ecosystems and biodiversity in Iraq.

The meeting stressed the importance of providing specialized training programs for entities responsible for enforcing environmental laws, in a way that enhances their capacity to address practices that negatively affect the environment and biodiversity in Baghdad and surrounding areas. It also highlighted the need to adopt modern tools and procedures that contribute to protecting natural resources and preserving plant and animal reserves.

During the meeting, University of Baghdad President Professor Alaa Al-Zughaybi listened to the views and proposals of participants, affirming the university presidency’s full support for the environmental project and its commitment to providing the resources and spaces necessary for its implementation, in a way that strengthens the university’s role in serving the community and addressing priority environmental issues.

The Deanship of the College of Mass Communication continues to play an active role in hosting distinguished scientific and academic events and in providing a suitable environment for dialogue and the exchange of expertise among specialists and researchers, reflecting its commitment to supporting initiatives that serve society and promote environmental awareness.

The meeting, hosted by the College of Mass Communication, reflects the college’s academic mission to support scientific and research activities that reinforce the standing of the University of Baghdad at the local, Arab, and international levels.
