A doctoral dissertation titled “Employing Public Relations Communication Activities to Promote the Concept of Green Education at the University of Baghdad: An Analytical Field Study” was discussed at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad.
The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Salem Jassim Mohammed, with Prof. Dr. Jaafar Shaheed Hashem serving as the supervisor. Committee members included Assist. Prof. Dr. Jassim Taresh Ghudhaib, Assist. Prof. Dr. Kareem Musht Zalaf, Prof. Dr. Talib Abdul Majeed Dhiab, and Prof. Dr. Salwa Mohammed Yahya as the external examiner.
The study aimed to identify the communication activities carried out by the University’s public relations department, examine their content, and assess how they are employed to promote the concept of green education among university students. It also explored the extent of the public relations department’s role in strengthening students’ awareness of this concept.
The findings revealed a moderate positive impact of these communication activities across the three dimensions of the dependent variable: environmental awareness, environmental behavior, and attitudes toward sustainability.
The study recommended expanding interactive digital activities and developing an integrated communication strategy to reinforce the concept of green education within the Iraqi university environment.
The outcomes of the study are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
