The Department of Journalism at the College of Media, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific symposium titled “The Effects of Information and Communication Technology on the Evolution of Journalism Writing.” This event was held within the context of the rapid digital advancements and their significant influence on the field of media and journalism.
The symposium was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Nuh Az Aldin in front of an audience consisting of third-year students and faculty members of the college. The presentation included a comprehensive analysis of both the positive and negative impacts of information and communication technology on the field of journalism.
Dr. Az Aldin emphasized that “information and communication technology has brought about a revolution in the field of media and journalism,” noting that “the internet has transformed traditional concepts of time and space.” He added that this shift has greatly affected the relationship between individuals and the media, as individuals now interact instantaneously with media outlets.
Dr. Az Aldin also discussed “the use of multimedia in electronic journalism, which enables the presentation of diverse and rich content to the audience.” He stressed the “importance of hyperlinks in directing readers to multiple sources of information.”
At the end of the symposium, Dr. Nuh Az Aldin highlighted the challenges facing electronic journalism, such as weak editorial oversight in some online platforms and the provision of low-quality content. He also criticized the use of certain online platforms for delivering journalistic content lacking in quality and significance.
It is worth noting that this scientific symposium reflects the increasing interest and interaction with the field of journalism and the impact of technology on its practice in the current digital age.
