The College of Media at the University of Baghdad hosted the first meeting of the Industrial Council for the Public Relations Department with the aim of establishing a communication bridge between the demands of the labor market and the academic skills possessed by students.
In attendance were the College’s Dean, Professor Dr. Ammar Taher, and the Head of the Public Relations Department, Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Hassan, along with the Public Relations Officer of Zain Iraq, Ahmed Abdul Moneim, and the Executive Director of Research at Kapta Company.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the college and leading companies in the field of public relations. It aimed to develop educational programs that align with the needs of the job market and ensure that students acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in this field.
At the opening of the council, Dr. Ammar Taher emphasized that “this important meeting aims to strengthen cooperation and build a strong bridge between the academic world and the job market in the field of public relations.” He added, “Quality teaching and skill development are our primary goals at the College of Media, and we believe in the importance of partnerships with the industrial sector to achieve this.”
He continued, “We are here today to collectively explore effective ways to achieve this common goal. We want to ensure that our students graduate equipped with the knowledge and skills that enable them to excel in the competitive job market. Today, we have an opportunity to collaborate with your esteemed companies to develop educational programs based on industry needs that meet current and future expectations and requirements.”
Dr. Taher expressed his hope that “the college, in coordination with the leading companies in the industrial council, can achieve sustainable improvements in teaching quality, giving students the edge in the field of public relations.”
On his part, Dr. Mohammed Al-Aamiri, the Head of the Public Relations Department, affirmed that “this meeting is intended to strengthen relationships and enhance constructive cooperation between academics and company representatives.” He explained that “the council will be an important platform for addressing market challenges and adjusting education in accordance with the changing industry needs.”
In early September 2023, the College of Media inaugurated the Industrial Council for the Radio and Television Department, attended by representatives of Iraqi satellite channels. In late August 2023, the first meeting of the Industrial Council for the Journalism Department was held, featuring distinguished representatives from news agencies and local newspapers.
This interactive initiative reflects the College of Media’s vision of providing education that aligns more closely with real-world needs, strengthening the connections between academics, media representatives, and companies to achieve sustainable development in the educational environment, and preparing a generation of graduates capable of adapting to the changing job market requirements.
