The Dean of the College of Media at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Amar Taher, participated in the International Forum for Journalism and Media Colleges in the Arab world, held in Doha over three days under the auspices of the University of Qatar and the Al Jazeera Media Training Center.
The forum was attended by a significant number of deans and heads of journalism and media departments from Arab universities, where various aspects of education in this sector were discussed. Various workshops were organized to address teaching methods, curriculum development, and ways to enhance the quality of education in journalism and media. Additionally, the forum focused on bridging the gap between the outputs of media colleges and the job market.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Dean of the College of Media met with the Director of the Al Jazeera Media Institute, Iman Al Ameri. They exchanged commemorative plaques and preliminarily agreed to activate a collaboration protocol to organize workshops and training courses for faculty members and students.
Furthermore, the Dean of the College met with the Dean of the College of Media and Communication at Imam Muhammad bin Saud University, Professor Dr. Saad bin Saud bin Muhammad. They agreed to conduct joint research between faculty members of both colleges and publish these studies in the “Media Researcher” journal, in addition to participating in academic discussions.
Moreover, the Dean of the College of Media and Communication at the University of Algeria, Professor Dr. Malek Attoui, met with the Dean of the College to discuss potential scientific collaboration and how to activate it on all levels.
During the forum, meetings also took place with a group of Arab professors, discussing potential areas of collaboration with the College of Media at the University of Baghdad. These discussions involved Dr. Zaher Harb, a journalism professor at City University in the UK, Dr. Abdullah bin Khamees Al-Kindi, a media professor and Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, Dr. Sadek Al-Hamami, a communication professor at the Tunisian Institute of Communication and News Sciences, Dr. Khaled Al-Fahs, a radio and television professor in the Department of Media at Kuwait University, and Mr. Montasser Marai, Director of Media Initiatives at the Al Jazeera Media Institute.
This international forum witnessed the exchange of experiences and ideas among various participating entities and reflects the commitment of the University of Baghdad to enhance the quality of education and research in the fields of media and journalism at both the national and Arab levels.
This initiative aligns with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the presidency of the University of Baghdad to open up to the region and excel in specialization, as well as to establish agreements and cooperation protocols with the aim of improving the scientific reputation of Iraq in international rankings and accessing the latest scientific experiences in media and communication.
