The Dean of the College of Media at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Amar Taher, participated in the proceedings of the Arab World Journalism Colleges Forum, organized by the Al Jazeera Media Institute in partnership with the University of Qatar and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Also representing Baghdad’s media department was Professor Dr. Wisam Fadel, a faculty member in the Radio and Television department, along with several deans, educators, and media students from twenty Arab countries.
The forum, spanning three days and featuring a select group of experts, academics, journalists, and leaders of media and academic institutions from within and beyond Qatar, deliberated on the challenges confronting journalism, plans for the profession’s advancement, keeping pace with developments, and enhancing the skills of media professionals. Additionally, the forum showcased global best practices in the field.
The first session of the forum discussed modern trends in journalism and whether journalism colleges align with these trends. It explored whether the skills of new journalists meet market demands. The second session focused on presenting various Arab experiences in future media, along with an informative presentation on video production for digital platforms. The third session, dedicated to presenting global best practices in journalism education, covered topics like how to prepare journalism colleges and their students for the future and the role of teachers in capacity development and prioritizing curriculum updates.
