The Qualification, Employment, and Follow-up Unit at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, organized a training workshop titled “Fundamentals of News Editing in the Digital Environment,” attended by a number of students. The initiative is part of the unit’s ongoing efforts to develop students’ skills and enhance their readiness for the media job market.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Fadhil, who provided both a theoretical and practical presentation covering the key professional principles of news editing in the digital environment. He highlighted the transformations in journalistic work resulting from rapid technological developments and the proliferation of digital platforms.
The workshop aimed to equip students with professional news writing skills suitable for digital media, including crafting engaging headlines, constructing news leads, verifying information, and managing the fast-paced flow of news while maintaining accuracy and credibility.
Dr. Fadhil also emphasized the importance of utilizing multimedia—such as images, videos, and infographics—to enhance journalistic content and audience engagement, stressing adherence to journalistic ethics in the digital space.
Through such activities, the Qualification, Employment, and Follow-up Unit seeks to prepare a generation of media professionals capable of working efficiently in a dynamic digital environment, thereby contributing qualified personnel to media institutions.
At the conclusion of the workshop, it was emphasized that developing students’ digital media skills is part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), by preparing graduates with modern skills aligned with contemporary media requirements.
