The Dean of the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, and Chair of the Council of Deans of Colleges and Departments of Mass Communication in Iraq, Prof. Dr. Ammar Taher Mohammed, chaired an expanded meeting of the Council, attended by Dr. Wafaa Hamid Abbas, Director of the Department of Studies and Planning at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to discuss the adoption of the Bologna Process across colleges and departments of mass communication at Iraqi universities.
The meeting addressed the academic and administrative aspects of implementing the system, as well as mechanisms for standardizing its requirements in line with the Ministry’s policies. Participants also discussed how the Bologna Process will contribute to modernizing curricula and improving the quality of mass communication education.
Prof. Dr. Ammar Taher Mohammed stated, “The Council has decided to adopt the Bologna Process in all colleges and departments of mass communication, with implementation beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year.” He added that this transition represents a significant step toward modernizing the educational environment and aligning mass communication programs with internationally recognized academic standards, ultimately preparing graduates with the knowledge and professional skills required by the labor market.
For her part, Dr. Wafaa Hamid Abbas reaffirmed the Ministry’s full support for implementing the system, praising the ongoing coordination with the Council of Deans of Colleges and Departments of Mass Communication and the efforts being made to complete the transition to the Bologna Process in mass communication disciplines.
The adoption of the Bologna Process forms part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s broader strategy to develop academic programs at Iraqi universities in accordance with international standards and enhance the quality of higher education and its outcomes. This initiative is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
