A master’s thesis entitled “Digital Public Relations Strategies in Iraqi Ministries to Promote Environmental Awareness: An Analytical Study of the Iraqi Ministry of Environment’s Facebook Page” was discussed at the College of Mass Communication, University of Baghdad, by researcher Narjis Khairallah Abdul Hussein.
The examination committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Jassim Tarish Ghudhaib, with Assistant Professor Karim Musht Zalaf serving as the supervisor. Committee members included Lecturer Ali Muhannad Hamid and Lecturer Hanan Haider Sahib as the external examiner.
The study examined the digital public relations strategies employed by Iraqi ministries to enhance environmental awareness through their communication activities. It explored how these strategies target specific audiences, influence public attitudes and perceptions, and utilize Facebook as an effective platform for delivering communication messages and achieving environmental awareness objectives.
The findings revealed that promoting environmental awareness was the primary communication objective of the Iraqi Ministry of Environment’s Facebook page, accounting for 36.12% of its published content. The study also found extensive use of rational appeals, particularly those based on information and factual evidence, across the page’s posts and multimedia content.
The thesis recommended that those responsible for managing the Ministry of Environment’s Facebook page adopt digital public relations strategies based on scientific, professional, and communication principles. It also emphasized the importance of using the study’s findings to address weaknesses and strengthen effective communication practices.
The study’s outcomes are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education.
