The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad hosted Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Al Yassin, President of the Iraqi Academy of Sciences, to deliver an enrichment lecture for the College’s graduate students. The lecture was attended by Professor Dr. Ammar Taher Mohammed, Dean of the College, along with a number of faculty members and graduate students.
The Dean welcomed the President of the Iraqi Academy of Sciences, expressing his appreciation for his visit and academic contribution and highlighting the scholarly and cultural value of his participation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening communication between academic institutions and specialized scientific academies in ways that contribute to advancing the academic and linguistic skills of graduate students.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Al Yassin delivered a lecture on Arabic language accuracy and the importance of maintaining precise language use in academic and media contexts. He reviewed common linguistic errors and frequently misused words and terms, providing appropriate corrections and emphasizing the importance of selecting accurate Arabic expressions in academic writing, research, and media discourse.
Al Yassin also highlighted the importance of the Arabic language as a fundamental component of well-crafted media discourse. He stressed the responsibility of academics, media professionals, and researchers to preserve the language’s accuracy and enhance the quality of its use, particularly amid the rapid changes taking place in the media and cultural landscape.
The lecture featured extensive engagement from graduate students, who raised questions and offered comments on language accuracy and the use of terminology in academic research, theses, and dissertations, as well as the precise use of Arabic in media content.
