The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad held a national vigil to mark Iraqi Sovereignty Day, with the participation of the college’s deanship, faculty members, and students. The event featured the raising of the Iraqi flag and highlighted the values of national sovereignty and belonging to Iraq.
In a speech delivered on the occasion, Professor Ammar Taher Mohammed, Dean of the College of Mass Communication, said that “sovereignty represents an established national value and is closely linked to society’s awareness and its ability to safeguard its national decision-making, independence, and vital interests.”
He added that “Iraqi universities play an important role in fostering national awareness among students through education, knowledge, and practices that strengthen their sense of responsibility toward their country.” He noted that “the College of Mass Communication has a particular responsibility in this regard, given the role of the media in shaping public awareness, conveying facts, and promoting the values of citizenship.”
The vigil featured the raising of the Iraqi flags in an atmosphere that reflected pride in national identity, with the participation of students, faculty members, and college staff, reaffirming Iraq’s unity, sovereignty, and national standing.
The event is part of the national and cultural activities organized by the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad, in alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, particularly its focus on building awareness, responsibility, and citizenship.
