The College of Mass Communication launched an awareness campaign under the slogan “Your Health… A Responsibility” titled “Do Not Believe Everything Published on Social Media,” aiming to raise public awareness about the dangers of misinformation amid the growing influence of digital platforms.
The campaign encourages the public to verify information circulated on social media platforms, whether related to health, economics, society, politics, security, science, or history, and not to rely on unverified content without checking credible sources. Special attention was given to misleading health information that may pose direct risks to individuals.
The campaign warned against pages promoting dietary supplements, herbal products, cosmetics, cosmetic procedures, and weight-loss products, stressing that many of these commercial pages prioritize profit over consumer safety. It also emphasized the importance of avoiding rumors and refraining from interacting with or promoting misleading pages.
The initiative further highlighted the need to protect personal data and avoid sharing private information with unofficial or anonymous pages, particularly those claiming to provide job opportunities, due to the potential risks of fraud and exploitation.
Campaign activities included distributing awareness brochures and leaflets, publishing educational materials, organizing a seminar, and launching a Facebook page dedicated to sharing guidance content. The campaign was implemented by PhD students from the Public Relations Department under faculty supervision as part of linking academic learning with practical application.
The initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being, Goal 4 on quality education, and Goal 16, which promotes informed and transparent societies based on reliable information.
The campaign forms part of the college’s ongoing efforts to support awareness initiatives that contribute to building a more informed society and encouraging the safe and responsible use of social media platforms.
